Schools Targeted for Bomb Threats in 3 States, Including Utah
Another bomb threat was just received at multiple schools in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. Luckily, this time, they turned out to be hoaxes.
According to Dustin Van Wagoner, manager of Armitek, this type of threat is becoming more common. “When I went to school in Utah, we were taught to duck under the desk in the event of a nuclear bomb. We never thought it would really happen. Since then, everything has changed.”
At some point, it is reasonable to believe threatening phone calls, emails, and social media posts will not be hoaxes, but turn into actual events. Either way, children who attend these schools are assaulted with imminent bomb threats to active shooters, making it tough to feel safe, let alone learn under almost constant fear of possible injury or death.
To address this, State officials in Utah have approved $75 million for schools and other government organizations to increase security.
Armitek is contracted with the State of Utah to provide ballistic (aka bulletproof) glass and security film to help prevent threats.
“We are already working with almost 100 schools in Utah who are taking proactive steps in enhancing school safety,” Van Wagoner said. “Parents tell me they are reaching out to their schools to tell them to take these steps as well.”
